LA Consultation & Outcome

The Local Authority carried out a formal parent consultation regarding proposals to restructure its specialist education offer by
amending the designations of some special schools.

These proposals would enable schools to focus their expertise on specific elements of special educational needs and disability (SEND) and ensure that schools in close proximity complement each other.

It supports the strategic aim of ensuring children with SEND can be educated in their local community as provision in each area will be designed to accommodate a broad range of needs.

The consultation period has come to an end and the Local Authority has determined the following;

Avalon School is registered as a day special school with a capacity of 55 pupils, for boys and girls aged 11-19, focussing its expertise on the following elements of SEND:

• Profound & Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
• Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
• Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
• Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
