Work experience feedback from Bay Tree Café

Work experience feedback from Bay Tree Café

Posted by Avalon School on July 15th 2019

Chloe was a pleasure to work with and very well liked in the team. Chloe had become more confident with working with the customers during her time with us and was willing to try new things. Her jobs included working in the kitchen, keeping things clean and tidy, food prepping, baking and decorating. Her main role was dealing with customers, taking orders to tables and clearing tables. Chloe had always got on well with the other café workers, trainees and staff. Chloe was always perfectly dressed and presented. We wish her all the best for the future’. ‘Luke was also a pleasure to work with, he was always very hard working, keen to please and interested in the workings of the café. It was obvious he had an interest in catering especially baking and his jobs involved baking cakes and decorating cakes. Other jobs included preparing food for the café, general cleaning and keeping the café tidy. Luke always got on well with the other trainees, staff and customers. Luke was always well dressed and presentable. Good luck in the future Luke’. ‘The Bay Tree cafe has been working with the students from Avalon School for round 5 years, 2 students on one day a week. The students have always been a joy to work alongside and it was helped to run smoothly by Avalon support staff. It has been a great partnership and we look forward to working together again’.

Posted by Laura on May 17th 2019

The most outstanding individuals and institutions that the education sector has to offer have been recognised in the shortlist for the Tes Schools Awards 2019. It's been revealed that Avalon has been shortlisted for the alternative provision of the year award. Tes editor Ann Mroz said: It is wonderful to see such great ideas and excellent practice emerging from our schools and teachers, especially at a time when schools are under financial pressure. We had a record number of entries this year and the standard was very high, so all those shortlisted should be very proud: it’s an extraordinary achievement to be on this shortlist. The winners will be revealed at the Tes gala awards evening at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London on Friday 21 June 2019. To see the full list of who's in the running, pick up a copy of this week's Tes, or visit tesawards.co.uk

ICT in 4 Hut

ICT in 4 Hut

Posted by Laura on May 3rd 2019

4 Hut have been working on a project using micro:bits to learn about coding. All students were able to create a code which displayed an image or a scrolling line of text when a button is pressed on the micro:bit, with some students learning how to use other inputs including shaking and tilting the micro:bit. This work has contributed to their accredited work in ICT, using different functions of the computer to input information. They were very proud of their creations and their ability to use these mini computers, displaying a wide range of computational thinking to problem solve, create and collaborate.
