Chocolatiers in 3AK

Chocolatiers in 3AK

Posted by Laura on December 11th 2015

3AK have been having a go at being chocolatiers this week. We all made chocolate truffles to take home and give as gifts to family members or friends. We used the skills that we have learnt in science about changing states, using hot cream to melt chocolate. We then put the liquid mixture in the fridge, and waited for it to set. We then scooped spoonfuls of the mixture and rolled it in either desiccated coconut or hundreds and thousands. We then made our own packaging. We used our listening skills to follow instructions to fold a square of paper several times to make a box. We decorated our boxes and they looked great!

Weston Super Mare and the broadcaster Clinton Rogers presented the awards. A short film was shown of all the finalists and our film showed the pupils swimming at their hydrotherapy session with Sue Philcox providing the narrative. Unfortunately The Wedmore Playing Fields Association won the award but it was a good opportunity to spread the word about our fundraising project.

Rumbling Tums Café

Posted by Laura on December 1st 2015

The Rumbling Tums Café has now been open to the public for three weeks. Parents, grandparents and carers have enjoyed the delicious cakes provided by Bob Burns and hot and cold drinks prepared by the café team. Everyone has welcomed the chance to relax and chat before picking up their youngsters at the end of the day and we have had many positive comments, with one parent saying that she'd noticed how much one young man had improved in his customer service skills over the weeks. Another student has made amazing progress in her money skills since working in the café, which is great to see. After Christmas we will be inviting some of our partner schools to visit the café, but it will still be open for families and carers on certain Mondays throughout the term. Watch this space and your youngster's home-school book for details! Our first products in the Rumbling Tums range are now on sale: kitchen towels designed and manufactured by the students in their sessions at the Reach Centre. They cost £3.00 each and there is a choice of three designs, as you can see in the photos. Limited stock, so place your order now by ringing the school office or via the home-school book. Aprons and shopping bags to follow - watch this space!
