We raised £127.00 for our Hydrotherapy pool appeal. The Guillemont Champagne and flutes were won by Helen Chainey, DKNY Donna Karan parfum for women was won by Sarah Clothier, Clinique Chemistry skin cologne for men was won by Emma Sage, Pandora silver butterfly and love charms were won by Terri Muxlow and Val Smart won the Love juicy heart toiletries set and plaque. The Lunch Bunch. Today they successfully tested their bread recipe, filling the school with a delicious aroma. Look out for dates for The Lunch Bunch on tour when they will be 'popping up' in Stawell, Bawdrip and Moorlinch. | Read more here: Leavers Prom 2018 Mon, 09 Jul 2018 12:46:00 +0100 Laura On Wednesday 27th June, KS4 and 6th Form students partied the night away at the Leavers’ Prom, this year to a film and film awards theme. Student's arrived to a fizzy reception, in their prom outfits, in cars, on motorbikes, in a tractor, in a lorry and in a 'princess horse drawn carriage'. Students enjoyed an evening of food and dance, with a buffet, ice cream bar, photo booth and disco. Showing their best moves on the dance floor and poses in the photo booth. Students got glittered and sparkled so that they were disco ready before DJ Greg Mason spun his best tunes and kept the dance floor full all night long! A big thank you to Bob Burns (Burns the Bread bakery) for kindly donating a delicious buffet and to Brookside School for donating the use of their fabulous marque - Prom's never had such a glamorous location. Mon, 25 Jun 2018 11:23:00 +0100 Avalon School On 22nd June, a very sunny Friday afternoon, Avalon School held its annual Fun Friday event to raise funds for its Hydrotherapy Pool appeal. This event was open to the local community as well as students and parents. Students delivered flyers to neighbours and were glad to welcome them. In addition to the usual range of fun activities, music and food there were also a selection of products to purchase made by the students. These included body scrub in 3 scents, artwork prints and mugs, play slime, greetings cards, plant pots and plants. There was also a meet and greet opportunity with the local fire and police services with their emergency vehicles. The school would like to thank all that supported the event, either by attending or giving donations, in particular we would like to thank Steve the Burger Man, the Pete Wagstaff band, Lovingtons, and Screwfix. We all enjoyed their singing and thanked them for their kind donation which we used towards our whole school ‘Lions of Zululand’ day. Wed, 13 Jun 2018 10:15:00 +0100 Laura Avalon School in Street started an art enterprise group on a Friday lunch time lead by Laura McCathie, which has had unexpected results. The work the students produced was so outstanding staff began commissioning them to produce artwork for them; it soon became clear that they could not keep up with demand. As a result, the school is having prints made in a range of sizes from Limited Edition canvasses to post card size prints, which can be purchased framed or unframed. This scheme celebrates and thanks businesses that have been contributing to students’ learning for life, through their partnership with the school. Mon, 04 Jun 2018 10:00:00 +0100 Laura On Friday 1st June some Key Stage 3 pupils were VIP guests at the Bath and West Show to collect Somerset's Environment Youth Award. Pupils accepted the award on behalf of the school for their contribution to local environmental projects and their conservation work on site, the video beneath highlights just a few of the projects pupils have worked on over the last year. The school was awarded a certificate, a hedgehog shaped trophy and prize money of £250, to be spend on conservation and environmental work. Well Done everyone at Avalon for this prestigious achievement! Following the awards ceremony pupils were able to enjoy the attractions at the Bath and West Show, from seeing and stroking a range of young farm animals [the goats and lambs were a favourite] to going inside fire engines and on police motorbikes. | Read more here: Sixth Form Preparing Lunch Mon, 21 May 2018 17:00:00 +0100 Avalon School On Monday 21st May, Sixth Form students prepared a tomato salad and Italian pasta for visitors attending a meeting in our school. We were delighted by the positive feedback: ‘I absolutely loved my pasta and salad. Great flavour and very welcomed. Thank you!’ ‘Pasta salad was fabulous but next time please can we have a bigger spoon – I couldn’t get enough of it on my plate!’ Pasta and salad was very tasty.
