Avalon's Outreach Programme 2016-17

Outreach Programme 2016-17

The lead Educational Psychologists, Kate Lee and Dawn Thorley, sought the views of our partner schools in order to plan and implement a new Outreach Offer. The new Outreach Offer aims to 'build the capacity' of our partner schools to meet the needs of pupils with SEND.

Independent Learning Assistant Courses

Summer term 2017 ‘Independent Learning Assistant’ course

The current ILA course is being hosted by Crispin School and is attended by 12 teaching assistants from five schools (infants, primary, junior and secondary).  See programme booklet attachment for further details on course content.

Evaluation of each session is completed, enabling the course to be adapted to meet the specific needs of those attending, with a more in-depth evaluation at the end of the course.

Half-termly supervision groups will be run following the course completion.

Parent/Carer Outreach

Does your child have SEN&D?

The Parent/Carer Group is a friendly, small group of parents and carers who meet every month to socialise, relax and unwind, and share experiences of living with a young person who has Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities. The group is supported by Angela Bolton, PFSA.  At the request of those attending, others can be invited to talk about specific issues (e.g. Educational Psychologist, CAMHS,).

We meet at Avalon School on the second Thursday of each month (except during school holidays) from 7.00pm until 8.30pm.

This group is available to both parents/carers of children and young people attending our partner mainstream schools, as well as parents/carers of children and young people attending Avalon School.

Contact Angela for more details, or just turn up.

Outreach for Children and Young People

While the focus of the Outreach offer is to build the capacity of mainstream schools to meet SEN&D, Avalon School have an After School Club which can be attended by children and young people from our local partner mainstream schools.  Please contact Angela Bolton if you would like to discuss further.
