Welcome to Avalon School

A message from Alison Murkin, Head Teacher

I would like to welcome you to Avalon School through our website which aims to provide an insight into what our school is all about.

Avalon is a special school.  At its heart are our young people aged 11- 19 years, all of whom have  learning difficulties. We cater for a broad range of pupils. Currently the majority of pupils have moderate or severe learning difficulties; a significant proportion have Autistic Spectrum Condition [ASC] and a smaller number have complex additional needs.

Avalon is a thriving school community of enthusiastic learners who support and encourage each other to achieve as highly as they are able.

Our focus is on enabling all of our learners to develop skills for the whole of their life: academic, personal and social, communication and independence skills.

Our partnership with parents, together with a flexible, personalised approach, are key to enabling our pupils to achieve as highly as they do.

Our pupils tell us that they are happy at school, and they enjoy their learning.

Our parents regularly tell us this too.

Ofsted tells us we are a good school and the behaviour and safety of our pupils is outstanding.

We are proud of our school and proud of all of our pupils’ achievements.

If you would like to visit do give us a call or email the school office, visitors are welcome.
